It’s up. It’s big. It’s dangerous.

Continued very big surf (Double overhead +) today with very choppy, blownout conditions due to the strong SE winds. Don’t even think about trying to paddle out at the unsheltered beach breaks. 

FORECAST: Saturday, beginning to drop but still well overhead. Swell fading to a more manageable level on Sunday.

Hurricane Ike is getting ready to wreak havoc on our friends in Texas. Texas, we’re with you in spirit, we know how it feels. Tidal surges are life threatening. 

If you think that you’re Laird Hamilton and you just have to go out (which we do not recommend), make sure your leash is 100%. It will probably save your life.

Alright Surfers - it is up and it is big. We have Clear, Sunny skies with East winds blowing at 15-20 MPH. The water is Clear & a cool 84 degrees. The hurricane swell has arrived. 

We have Overhead sets breaking on the outside and it should stay up all day. It will probably start dropping tomorrow. The currents are strong, so be careful out there.

The surf is continuing to rise. Overhead sets are now rolling in. The Pensacola Buoy is in the 10.2 ft range @ 8 sec. The winds are picking up out of the East causing for some strong sideshore drift. High tide was at 6 AM with Low Tide pulling out at 6 PM. Mostly sunny today with a chance of rain in the afternoon.

FORECAST: Building surf all day today. Longer period, well overhead Ike groundswell arriving later today. Larger double overhead groundswell peaking late Thurs, decreasing slightly on Friday, backing down thru Sunday.

The surf had risen into the Chest-Head High range overnight. Much longer lines than the Gustav swell. The Pensacola Buoy is in the 9 ft range @ 8 sec. The wind is light NorthEast (offshore). High Tide today 6 am. Low at 6 pm. Mostly sunny today with a chance of rain in the afternoon.

Hurricane Ike is now in the Gulf of Mexico and is getting better organized. He should re-intensify to at least a Cat 3 storm, possibly a Cat 4. Look out Texas!!!

Before dark the surf jumped up to soild waist high with some rib high sets. The Pensacola Buoy is in the 6 ft range @ 7 sec.

Hurricane Ike has passed over Cuba and is now in the SE Gulf of Mexico and it appears that the core is intact enough to take advantage of some very favorable conditions. He should re-intensify to at least a Cat 3 storm, possibly a Cat 4. Look out Texas

Small wind waves from the east will build some later today. Could be longboardable later today. Building short-period pre-hurricane wind surf will begin showing as early as Wednesday morning. Longer period Ike groundswell arriving later Wednesday afternoon. Large Ike swell Thursday. Slightly smaller Friday. Slowly backing off Sat-Sun. The water is clearing up. No jellyfish problems. High tide 5 am. Low 5 pm.

Hurricane Ike is passing over Cuba for the second time very near where Gustav passed a week ago. Ike will enter the Gulf of Mexico just after midnight tonight. Once Ike moves into the southeastern Gulf of Mexico, he will have at least three days over the Gulf of Mexico and environmental conditions are favorable for strengthening. All indications are that Ike will intensify to at least Category 3 strength before making final landfall on Saturday. The good news for us is that there is a ridge of high pressure setting up that will block Ike from moving in our direction. This is however, bad news for our friends in Texas.

Hanna is moving up the NE US coast and will soon head out to the N Atlantic.

Less-than-shin-high waves today. Continuing flat this weekend. If you want to surf, this weekend you’ll have to head to the East Coast to catch some Hanna waves or… wait for Ike. The water is clearing up. No jellyfish problems.

Tropical Storm Hanna came ashore near the boder of the Carolinas early this morning. She will continue to move up the East Coast. She’s producing some fun waves for the East Coast.

Im our area, all eyes are on Cat 3 Hurricane Ike.  He is projected to come into the Gulf of Mexico by Wednesday. Once in the Gulf, conditions are favorable for further strengthening. We’re keeping a sharp eye on this potentially dangerous storm.

The surf has dropped into the Shin-High range. Winds will be out of the SouthEast 10-15 MPH. Low Tide is around 11:30 AM. Our current forecast shows an upcoming flat spell. You may have to travel to the East Coast to find surf this week.

In the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Hannah is beginning to move up the East Coast and will be a wave maker for them. Ike has intensified into a Category 4 hurricane and is heading towards the SE Bahamas. Further out, Josephine is chugging across the Atlantic.

We have some Waist High Choppy, Wind waves out of the SouthEast. The Winds will be SouthEast 5-15 MPH and the Surf will slowly drop today. Low tide around 10 am.

In the Atlantic, Hannah is beginning to move up the East Coast and will be a wave maker for them. Tropical Storm Ike is expected to intensify and head towards the SouthEast Bahamas.

The surf remains Head High and bigger. It is disorganized and unsurfable. Strong East-SouthEast winds are causing very poor form. It is raining all over the area this morning. The weather is much nicer and the surf is much cleaner to the East of us.
